Is Internet Ministry Effective?

Continuing our “series” on things we learned at the Internet Ministry Conference 2007, I am sharing a few points to ponder about the effectiveness of internet ministry.  Why do internet ministry at all, can you really reach people through the net?
Gospel Communications has an article addressing this very question, I encourage you to take a look at it.  But the summary is:

… it lets us communicate with people in a new and powerful way.
it lets us reach the lost in every corner of the world.
… it’s a tool God’s given to us to put to use in His service.

Our challenge - how are WE using the internet to advance God’s Kingdom?

I have some ideas, but I wonder, will it turn the way we do things upsidedown? Post a comment or contact me to discuss!  Jessica

Baptism and the CRCNA

I’ve been following an interesting conversation begun by Dave Gifford,  a CRWM missionary in Mexico. (and fellow ex-Roman Catholic!)

We work in places all over the world where there are widely divergent views on “believer’s” versus infant baptism. (would it be fair to call that “covenant” baptism?) With that in mind, Dave explains why he is now an advocate for infant baptism. He has really thought a great deal about the topic, and I encourage you all to join in the conversation.

This has been a topic of discussion within our denomination as a whole, and I’m sure that we will continue to wrestle with this issue.

Thanks, Dave, for allowing us to take another look at this issue!

Scenes from the Internet Ministry Conference

So it’s been a few weeks since Jessica and I attended the GospelCom Internet Ministry Conference, but we wanted to share a few scenes with you. The conference created a Flickr photostream, which made finding and sharing pictures easier!

This guy runs a website called “Hollywood Jesus” and joined us for lunch one evening. In case you can’t tell from the picture, he’s quite a character!

We got these SWEET backpacks as part of our “swag” (”Stuff We All Get”–catchy, huh?) bag. There’s even a cell phone pocket!

Here you see Jessica (behind the #15!) and myself (hiding behind the woman in the white shirt) at dinner the first night. We got to meet a number of interesting folks doing all kinds of online ministry!

“home” missions versus “world” missions–so what’s the difference?

I think it was in 1947 that the CRC first made a distinction between “home” missions and “world” missions. Some denominations, including our older “sibling”, don’t distinguish between “home” and “world”.

So what do you think? is the distinction an important one? Would it be worth it for us to begin a discussion on how things might change as we look ahead to the next 150 years?

Read this article and then share your thoughts with us. We’d like to hear from you!
